Regular dental cleaning maintains oral hygiene and helps avoid dental conditions that may lead to the more serious problem of periodontal disease.Periodontal (gum) disease affects both humans and pets alike. It is primarily caused by bacteria and plaque that attach to the soft gum tissue of the mouth. The first stage is gingivitis (inflamed gums) and unfortunately is very common in pets. At this stage, bacteria mix with saliva to form plaque. This sticky substance (sometimes discoloured or stained) adheres to the teeth and hardens, forming tartar and calculus. These deposits irritate gum tissue, cause inflammation, swelling and promote infection.

The pet’s breath may take on a sulfur –like odor (like rotten eggs) that develops from the by-products of food and bacteria fermenting in the pet’s mouth. Bad breath is often the first sign we will notice that something is wrong. Caught at this stage, gingivitis is treatable if not treated though, gingivitis my progress to periodontal disease. Periodontal disease is not treatable; there is irreversible bone loss and tooth damage, Roots are weakened and the pet will often experience pain from loose teeth.

Tooth brushing and dental gels are great options. Their inherent “hands-on” nature may reduce our own enthusiasm to maintain long-term use. Coupled with general resistance shown by pets, treatment compliance quickly drops off.

When tooth brushing and applying dental gels are too difficult to administer to your pet, try an effective alternative.

Simple and effective home care:

Simple: Just add 1 capful to 2cups of water each day. Provide additional, non-treated water as necessary, and make a fresh mixture each day.

Effective: Pet owners report good results in as little as two weeks. Most see dramatic improvement just after 1 bottle. The combination of select ingredients in specific ratios was developed by working with industry experts.

Economical: One bottle lasts an average size dog over 7 weeks. Many pet owners have increased the interval between in-clinic, professional dental cleanings.

Practical: The best dental product is the one that pet owners can reliably use on a regular basis, preferably every day. Convenience is important to pet owners and safety for both dogs and cats. Breathalyser is both convenient and effective.
